Neil is a relative newcomer to the Flower Sector having become the Managing Director of Oserian, one of Kenya’s largest multi-crop flower farms almost 5 years ago.
With a background over the past 15 years of business re-engineering/re-structuring in large, labour intensive organisations, Neil was recruited to formulate a major re-vamp of Kenya’s founding cut flower farm and by far its most technologically advanced horticultural business. Neil says ‘The challenge was to re-awaken what had become a sleeping giant, give it a good shake and make it fit for purpose in a rapidly changing market place.’
British by birth, Neil first set foot in Africa in 2000 and spent 18 months in Sierra Leone. Africa “got under his nails” and after living his dream for 4 years as the head of UK Motorcycle Racing, he grabbed the chance to return to the Continent to run a large UN food logistics operation in Liberia in 2006. From there he headed to Kenya in 2007 where he now lives with his wife and young son.
Oserian is now the third large Company Neil has successfully re-structured in Kenya and he is an advocate of the need for an organization – and crucially, the people within it – to constantly evolve and to aspire to be a driving force in changing the sector the organization operates in.
During his time at Oserian, Neil has sought to challenge the accepted norms and provoke debate within the industry and during his presentation will touch on some of those areas. Although Oserian supplies both the wholesale market as well as the retail trade, it is the latter that dominates its activities, with Packed At Source Bouquets an especially important and growing part of the Business.
